Shrimad Rajchandra Hospital puts a Neonatal Ambulance into service for South Gujarat
On the auspicious occasion of the 151st Birth Anniversary of Shrimad Rajchandraji, Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care (SRLC) launched a special neonatal ambulance. With the purpose of preventing transport-related health complications, the ambulance has been designed to safely transport newborn babies to Shrimad Rajchandra Hospital (SRH). The ambulance is equipped with a mobile ventilator, multi-parameter, syringe pump, embrace warmer, and lifesaving medication. Additionally, the ambulance will have on-board a team of highly trained doctors and nurses to provide care to neonates during transfers. Presently, no other such service exists in the entire Valsad and Dang district.
The neonatal ambulance has been generously donated to SRH by Shri Firodia Trust, Pune, in memory of Shri Navalmalji Firodia. The ambulance was inaugurated by Smt. Shribalaji Firodia Choradia, Managing Trustee of Shri Firodia Trust in the divine presence of Pujya Gurudevshri.
Started in 2008, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in SRH currently treats around 700 babies annually, and as acknowledged by the Government of Gujarat, has played an important role in reducing the Infant Mortality Rate in Gujarat from 50 in 2008 to 30 in 2017 (one of the best in the country). However, several infants from remote areas cannot reach the NICU, and many even die in the process of their transfer to a hospital. The neonatal ambulance will play a crucial role in increasing in-transit care provided to babies, and is expected to save the lives of hundreds of babies who would have otherwise died in the absence of adequate temperature and respiration control.
