It was a medical emergency when the foetus of a pregnant cow died in the womb of its mother. The cow’s body was swollen and she was in excruciating pain. The cow would die if the foetus was not removed in time. The Shrimad Rajchandra Jivamaitridham Gaushala’s veterinary team was called in and they successfully performed a caesarean section surgery, giving the cow a new lease of life.

Ramu Baraf, a resident of Pindval, a small hamlet in Dharampur taluka of South Gujarat received cattle for farming as a part of the Shrimad Rajchandra Cattle Rehabilitation Programme. This brought about a transformation in his efforts to earn a livelihood for his family through his only source of income – farming. Ramu expresses his thoughts, “The cattle provided by Shrimad Rajchandra Jivamaitridham Gaushala has benefitted me immensely. We had no cattle of our own for farming and used to spend Rs 250 – 300 for hiring labour to plough the field. This was not an economically viable model. The gift of cattle brought about a drastic change in our fortunes as we have benefitted from higher productivity at significantly lower costs. At the same time, the volunteers from Shrimad Rajchandra Mobile Veterinary visit us periodically to provide free medical check-up and treatment to our cattle, which further helps us to maintain cattle in good health and reduces expenditure on their medical treatment”

SRLC participates in a convention on animal welfare

Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care participated in a convention along with several NGOs from 22 – 24th December, 2017 at Ahmedabad to discuss the welfare of panjrapoles (animal shelters) and take steps to make them self-sufficient. SRLC stressed on the importance of preserving old panjrapoles (animal shelters) along with building new ones so that no animals are forced into slaughter-houses. SRLC also highlighted the work being carried out under its Animal Care programme. The conference was attended by more than 650 representatives from over 400 organisations from the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh and Uttaranchal.
