“Disasters result in death and although immediate relief is provided to the survivors, the psychological scars are long-lasting. In order to overcome these, education is the best means, especially for young children. We are grateful to Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care for its invaluable contribution for the reconstruction of our school building. We are indebted to SRLC for this support.”

REPORTS

Drought Relief Initiatives in Maharashtra benefit more than 50000 people

Approximately 33 crore people have been affected by the drought in India, as the country reels from severe water shortage and desperate poor farmers have suffered crop losses. The year 2016 has seen the worst drought in 100 years. The Indian state of Maharashtra has faced severe drought with approximately 28,000 villages out of a total of 43,000 villages affected, and the Marathwada region being the worst affected. The villages in this region not only face acute scarcity of drinking water, but the entire agro-economics is completely devastated. With no water supply, the farmers in the area are unable to grow crop, rendering them jobless. Hundreds of farmers have taken their own lives unable to cope up with these extreme realities! This situation has also resulted in ecological damage as animals and birds are also facing tough times and several animals have been sold by farmers to slaughterhouses due to lack of agricultural activity. Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care, under the Emergency Relief Programme, has provided immediate as well as long term relief in the drought affected areas.
