INTRODUCTION

Shrimad Rajchandra Gurukul is a progressive school that serves the economically deprived students, offering them the right infrastructure and environment to parent them into becoming constructive members of society. The core values that we seek to empower our students with are integrity, perseverance and empathy. While we work systematically towards improving the academic core of the students, giving them a platform to pursue higher education, we also pay keen attention to skill development and other activities and programmes to ensure holistic development.

The education scenario in South Gujarat is such that a large number of the villages remain deprived of this basic necessity. Tribals are recognised as one of the most marginalised groups and provision for their educational development in the area are scarce. An innovative and integrated educational approach to maximise their potential is most important for helping them escape the vicious cycle of ignorance and poverty.

Dharampur lies in one of the major tribal belts of South Gujarat, where access to higher education is limited. There posed an urgent need for higher secondary education in the stream of Science that could be accessible to tribal students. Responding immediately to this need, Shrimad Rajchandra Gurukul at Karanjveri in Dharampur was founded in June 2011.

We focus on the child’s holistic development by integrating academic performance with educational camps, extra-curricular activities and hands-on learning. Some of the activities include:

  • Special coaching in English, Computers, Robotics
  • Career Counselling
  • Competitions covering various areas such as Sports, Science, Information Technology
  • Seminars on Literature and Financial literacy
  • Working together with Teachers and Parents
  • Participation in community service programmes - 'Design for Change'
  • Workshops along with students of Mumbai schools - 'Together We Can'
  • Field Trips including Industrial visits
  • Educational Visits – 'Mumbai Darshan'
  • Promoting Performing Arts – 'Shrimad Rajchandra Kala Utsav'
  • Yoga Day Celebrations
  • Sports - `Khel Mahakumbh’

Today, the SRG houses 370 students from over 90 villages! Several students from SRG have pursued higher education in various fields such as Science, Engineering, Medicine, Nursing etc, thereby making their alma mater proud!

CASE STUDIES

SRG’s ex-student, Sonali Dusane now addressed with a `Dr.’ title.

The journey of Sonali Dusane, a girl from Vansda, Gujarat, is an inspiring story of what can happen when passion and perseverance is given the right environment and opportunity to bloom. Born into a traditional household, Sonali was destined to live a normal life of a girl brought up in her community. However, once she enrolled in Shrimad Rajchandra Gurukul (SRG), things began to change. The holistic education she received here, gave her the confidence that she can aspire to become a doctor. After completing her 12th Standard in SRG, Sonali went on to join a medical institute in Karnataka. She recently passed BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) with a first class. Today, Sonali is the first ex-student of SRG to become a doctor. Coming from a very humble background, it is no small feat that Sonali will now be able to provide financial support to her family. Deeply touched by SRLC’s support and moulded by the values she learned at SRG, Sonali feels inspired to give back to society. She aspires to work in Shrimad Rajchandra Hospital which serves the rural community.
