Improving Lives

Initiatives for the Blind to Support their Growth

Eyes are the window to the world but for those deprived of vision, it is a dark existence. In order to rekindle hope in the lives of the blind, volunteers conducted a Braille Yoga workshop at The Happy Home and School for the Blind, Mumbai to teach them pranayama and conduct laughter exercises for a joyful living. Pujya Gurudevshri’s books in Braille script were distributed to the Home. Nagpur SRD children also distributed these books to a local institution for the blind. Volunteers also visited Universal Service Centre for Blind, Chennai to distribute 150 canes with reflectors, which would greatly assist the visually impaired in their movements.

World Cerebral Palsy Day Observed at SRVC

World Cerebral Palsy Day was observed at Shrimad Rajchandra Viklang Centre (SRVC) to increase awareness of this condition and inspire concerted efforts towards the rehabilitation of the affected. A short presentation on cerebral palsy provided insights into the manifestations, causes, therapy and prevention of this condition. Success stories of children with cerebral palsy were shown which proved to be a good source of inspiration. The children were treated to cakes and danced to the tunes of music, which added to the fun quotient of the event.

Gifts of Love for the Less Privileged School Children

There are many children who are deprived of the basic tools for education and spend their childhood without resources to procure even a small toy. SRD children opened up their hearts to care for these less privileged children by distributing books, school bags and toys. Volunteers also distributed cycles, aptly called ‘Raj Savari’, to tribal and rural students, many of whom have to travel long distances to reach their schools. Educational aids such as stationery items and sports kits were also distributed amongst less privileged students.
